Dislike The City

I live in The city where I currently live is not clean at all. It is noisy and has a lot of traffic which is derived by the growth of the city itself and the positive economic outlook of the country. We are currently more than one and a half million people living in the urban area of the city and this is turning into a problem when the municipality does not have a consistent urbanization plan. In fact, garbage is also becoming a serious problem, not only because households do not recycle at all but also because there is no policy to deal with increasing levels of garbage. So the city is also becoming a dirty city as well.

Furry Friend

My favorite pet was a little white mouse I had as a child. Her name was Honey and she was very clever. She would climb up my arm and sit on my shoulder and hide beneath my hair when I would sit and read a book or watch TV. My sister and I would make little papers houses for her and she would go inside them. We even made a little table she would sit and eat the treats we put on it. She would even sit in the seat of my sister's convertible toy car while we pushed it around on the floor.

Dancing My Way Through Life

My favorite pastime activity is dancing. I have been learning bellydance for almost twelve years, and for the last four I have been learning tribal bellydance. The good thing about tribal bellydance is that it is a dance that is performed in groups, so it is great for making friends. I have myself made very good friends in the last couple of years through tribal bellydancing. I take lessons once or twice a week, depending on how much work I have to do, but it takes dedication and practice; from watching videos to exercising to get muscular training it is not only great workout but is a way of learning a culture, a way of life and values such as sharing and being part of a group which perhaps you might not see anywhere else. This is why I love my pastime activity and hopefully I will be able to go on tribal bellydancing if I have to move abroad to pursue my PhD studies.

Volunteering

Sometimes when it is cold and damp and the wind is whistling across the pitch and I would rather be tucked up warm in front of the TV, I wonder just what I have gotten myself in to. Then I look at the faces around me, the players warm and glowing from the showers and looking forward to a good hot meal, the club officials glowing with pride at the kind remarks of the visitors about the standard of the club house, and the other wives who responded to the "Do you think you could help me tonight" plea, red cheeked from the heat of the oven, and I know why I am there. We are a contented and happy bunch and our reward is in the pleasure that we are giving and sharing. Given the choice, I would rather be a willing volunteer involved and busy, than left behind on the sidelines.

Baby Band Clothes

Turning 40

I wanted to mark my 40th birthday with a special event so decided to hold a party for my friends and family to share the occasion with me. As I like entertaining and cooking I chose to prepare all the food myself. The beauty of this was not only saving on the cost of caterers but also the places I was able to visit to do my preparation. First stop, Calais, France. Amazingly, due to the exchange rates and cheap cost of travel I was able to book myself, my best friend and my car on to Eurotunnel, the high speed train crossing under the English Channel, to Calais and its wonderful shopping outlet, CitiEurope. Oh how we shopped!

Understanding My Mother

If I had the opportunity to turn back time and talk to my mother I would hug her and tell her that at last I understand what her life was like. I think in the end she was tired of trying so hard to be the strong one in her marriage, the one who had to make the decisions, run the house and deal with a difficult husband. My father had health problems and a sour tongue and was a hard man to live with. He demanded perfection of everyone but gave little in return. Now having lived with and divorced a similar man I can see how brave she was, to stay and cope for as long as she did rather than giving up. She bravely fought her own illness for eighteen months before dying at just 51. I wish I had known her better and could have been her strength when she needed it. So Mum, I admire you, I love you and I understand why sometimes you didn't love me, you were just too worn down, and I'm so, so sorry.
